Tenet DVD and Blu-ray to release on December 15

We’re not sure if anyone saw Tenet in the theatres abroad, but in India, we didn’t even see a theatrical release as the entire country was and is still gripped by the COVID-19 pandemic. Well, for all those Nolanites, we’ve got some excellent news for you guys. The big-budgeted sci-fi thriller will finally hit home release on December 15th. Warner Bros. has announced that Tenet will hit DVD, 4K UHD and Blu-ray next month. The film was praised by most critics while some found it to be one of Nolan’s lesser works.

The film had a ton of issues during release as the world was still fidgeting the pandemic and theatres across the world were hesitant to open their doors. It finally hit theatres in the US in August and racked up a $350 million gross internationally. That’s not a bad return at all, but we have to remember that Tenet cost more than $200 million dollars to make! Factor in marketing costs and the budget could balloon up to twice the amount. So, all in all, Tenet did lose the studio some money.

Tenet will be released on DVD on December 15

This year has seen theatres suffer one of their worst years yet with films being released online rather in the theatres. Even now, more films are optioned to screen online on OTT platforms. Disney did it with Mulan earlier this year and although the move was absolutely terrible, it did skip the tethered for an online release. In fact, there are a ton of films that have been either pushed back or delayed and you can check them all out, right here.

So, will any of you guys be buying the DVD when it does come out next month? Let us know.

PUBG Mobile planning to make a comeback in India before 2020 ends

PUBG Mobile is eyeing a comeback in India before the end of 2020, according to the latest reports online. Just days after Tencent terminated its services and access for PUBG Mobile and PUBG Mobile Lite in India, we’re now hearing that the popular battle royale game might just return after the Indian government banned it on September 2.

According to a report by TechCrunch that cites anonymous sources, PUBG Corporation has approached some global cloud service providers and could be planning to set up dedicated servers to store users data in India. Moreover, the company has also reportedly informed “high-profile” streamers in India about its comeback before the end of 2020.

One of the other sources in the report claims that the company could announce its plans for the comeback in India “as soon as this week”. Additionally, the developer is also planning to launch a marketing campaign during the Diwali festival that is scheduled for next week.

Another report by TalkEsport indicates that Microsoft and Reliance Jio are in talks for getting the publisher rights for PUBG Mobile in India. “The two tech-giants are reportedly going to announce the deal within a few weeks,” the report reads.

There have been several reports in the past about PUBG Corporation being in talks with Airtel and Jio for the license to publish PUBG Mobile in India. Having said that, the TechCrunch report notes that PUBG Corp has also reached out to Paytm in recent weeks.

After PUBG Mobile was banned in India along with 118 other apps over security concerns on September 2. PUBG Corporation severed ties with Tencent, the publisher of the game in India. On October 30, Tencent announced that it will terminate its services and access for PUBG Mobile players in India and with this, the publishing rights were handed back to PUBG Corp.

The new information does bring a ray of hope to the PUBG Mobile players who have been waiting for the game to return, however, there is no official word as to when that might happen.

PUBG Mobile remains one of the most popular battle royale games in India with over 50 million active players and many other games have been trying to get the kind of spotlight ever since the game’s exit from India. Reliance Jio recently hosted its first FreeFire tournament in India and nCore Games recently released a teaser for their upcoming game FAU-G, that’s set to launch sometime in November.

Heres why Google Pay and PhonePe users may face more failed transactions in 2021

Just before announcing that WhatsApp is now allowed to enable UPI payments for users in India, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) set a cap of 30 per cent on the total volume of UPI transactions on Third Party App (TPA) providers. This will go into effect from January 2021 and will impact apps like Google Pay, PhonePe, WhatsApp Pay and the likes, which may cause them to fail more often than before, while first party UPI apps like Paytm and MobiKwik are expected to benefit from not having any such cap on transactions.

According to NPCI, UPI transactions have exceeded the two billion mark, and third party apps like Google Pay, Amazon Pay and the likes are responsible for the majority of such transactions. The cap has been put in order to “address the risks and protect the UPI ecosystem as it further scales up.”

Presently, the majority of UPI transactions happen through Google Pay and PhonePe, apps that are owned by Google and Flipkart and rely on banks to enable the UPI environment. On the other hand, first party apps like Paytm and MobiKwik are UPI service providers themselves and run their own environment of accepting payments. According to a report, Google Pay and PhonePe account for 40 percent each, of UPI transactions, while Paytm and MobiKwik together account for the remaining 20 per cent transactions. This, even as Government’s own BHIM app hardly has any market share.

The imposition of the cap was done so as to change the market to a more even distribution pattern. Most of the transactions that happen on Google Pay and PhonePe, as alleged by other players, are small-value transactions where people send amounts as small as Re. 1 to each other to win cashback. The 30 per cent cap will be calculated on the basis of the total volume of transactions processed as UPI payments during the preceding three months on a rolling basis. NPCI has allowed TPAs with more than 30 per cent market share a two-year window to comply with the guidelines.

Once the cap on transactions go into effect, it’s not immediately clear what will happen when a TPA will exceed the 30 per cent cap. Would the app be allowed to complete the payment? Would this lead to more failed payments on Google Pay and the likes? The announcement also comes just hours before WhatsApp was finally given the go ahead to enable UPI transactions. The instant messaging app owned by Facebook has a massive market share in India, which can also very well translate to UPI market share. Then again, NPCI has allowed a maximum user base of up to 20 million users for WhatsApp.
