Call of Duty: Mobiles On The Brink feature event to start this week

Call of Duty: Mobile’s On The Brink feature event for season 13 is due to start sometime later this week. Details of the event are not yet known, but over on their official blog, Activision has teased a few things players can expect in the new mode. As per their teasers, the event seems to have an overarching espionage theme with players tasked with activating and deploying sleeper agents to infiltrate city centres.

“Expect to activate new spies by playing Multiplayer and Battle Royale. On your way, you can unlock weapon sets that provide a recruitment bonus. Get the job done to earn new Epic items, along with an assortment of other Rare and Uncommon weapons and items.”

That is pretty much all that we know about the event we know for now. However, looking at the thumbnail for the event on Call of Duty: Mobile’s ‘Event’s menu suggests that players might be looking at unlocking a new Epic Weapon blueprint for the Outlaw sniper rifle.

Last season's feature event was called Knights Divided. The event saw players choose between the Red Team and the Blue Team. Tasks were assigned each day and completing these tasks earned points for their team. The team with the most points at the end of each day won territory and the team with the most territory won a special item. The accumulated points also gave players the chance to earn certain team specific items. However, in order to ensure fairness, the items on offer for each team were the same, except for a difference in colour.

Sony is launching new BRAVIA TVs on Jan 7th at CES 2021

Sony has had a pretty good year, all things considered, and had a number of TVs out in 2020. The company implemented a few design changes to their A8H and X90 series of TVs, giving people more options when it comes to placing their TVs on a table-top. It gave users two different positions to place the TV. The company also launched the much-awaited PS5 internationally with an India release date set for February 2. But, that’s not all as a YouTube teaser posted by Sony seems to suggest that the company is looking at launching a BRAVIA TV at CES 2021 on January 7.

Apart from the teaser there seems to be no other info about the TV as yet, so it’s likely that Sony is holding its cards close to its chest. With that in mind, we can, at the very least, speculate on what features we can expect in the new TVs. With only one HDMI 2.1 port on the X90, it is possible that we see maybe more than one more HDMI 2.1 port on the new TV? Who knows. Considering LG has a large portfolio of HDMI 2.1 enabled TVs, it is likely that Sony has something planned as far as multiple HDMI 2.1 ports a re concerned.

LG, on the other hand, are betting big on Micro LED with its QNED TV, which seems to be the next step in the company’s display tech. So, until CES officially starts, all we can really do is speculate on what the new BRAVIA TV will look like and what features will it come with.

Apples foldable iPhone prototypes pass internal durability test

Foldable phones definitely gained major popularity during 2020. We saw several devices not only launch, but also gain momentum with sales numbers rising little by little. Given their growing popularity, many have wondered when Apple would jump on the foldable bandwagon, and while the company has not officially said anything on the matter, there are early leaks suggesting that Apple has begun working on its own foldable smartphone.

According to a report by Money, a Taiwanese publication, two prototypes of Apple’s foldable smartphone have passed the internal durability test at Foxconn. The report suggests that Apple is testing two different foldable form-factors, one of them being a clamshell design. The phone is said to use Samsung’s flexible OLED display. The report concludes that Apple isn’t looking to watch two foldable smartphones, but will instead evaluate which of the two form-factors works best, launching it while the other would be scrapped. The Apple foldable smartphone is rumoured to launch by late 2022 or 2023.

The launch timeline of 2022/2023 does make sense, given the amount of work it would require Apple to get the experience just right. Besides perfecting the form-factor, getting iOS to work seamlessly between the folded, non-folded, portrait and landscape orientations would require some work for sure. The time frame would also giver apple a way to figure out how to address the battery life concerns, given that foldable form factors can be difficult to pack more battery into, especially the clamshell design. We don’t expect Apple to discontinue the regular candy-bar shaped iPhone form factor once it releases its foldable smartphone.

Back in 2019, several manufacturers and OEMs committed to promoting the foldable form-factor. While Samsung would be the premium segment, TCL in particular had said they would produce flexible panels that would help create affordable foldable smartphones, however, that hasn’t happened yet. 2020 did slow things down, but hopefully, 2021 would see better and more affordable implementation of the foldable design.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 30 mobile specs leak, coming to laptops soon

Nvidia’s 30-series of GPUs came with a massive improvement in performance, with an RTX 3070 outperforming the outgoing RTX 2080 in many games and benchmarks. The RTX 3080 (Review) set a new benchmark for Nvidia’s mainstream gaming GPUs while the RTX 3090 continues to be a ridiculously powerful GPU for gaming and professionals. While desktop-based gamers continue to struggle with availability of 30-series GPUs, laptop gamers might have it far better. The RTX 30-series is coming to laptops and three of the GPUs have allegedly leaked.

Notebookcheck recently updated their mobile GPU database to reflect the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080, RTX 3070 and the RTX 3060. Interestingly, the RTX 3080 Mobile would come with an option of 8GB and 16GB VRAM while the RTX 3070 will feature 8GB VRAM. The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 is currently listed as having 6GB VRAM. While the amount of video memory is definitely impressive, these GPUs go beyond that. The three GPUs also feature a higher number of CUDA cores compared to their predecessors, starting with 6144 CUDA cores on the RTX 3080, 5120 on the RTX 3070 and 3072 on the RTX 3060. Other specs directly contributing to performance is the memory bus, with the RTX 3080 and RTX 3070 both having 256-bit memory bus while the RTX 3060 comes with a 192-but memory bus.

Nvidia is expected to launch the three mobile GPUs on January 12th during a Special Geforce Broadcast. Each of the three GPUs will come in their usual Max-Q and Max-P variants, and are expected to exist alongside the 20-series graphics. This is going to expand Nvidia’s GPU portfolio significantly, but will also hopefully drive the price points much lower for laptops featuring the 20-series GPUs. We expect many OEMs to reveal their gaming laptops with 30-series GPUs during the CES days. Hopefully, we will also see new SKUs with powerful AMD Ryzen mobile processors paired with powerful GPUs from Nvidia.
