Rumours about the smartphone indicate that it may be rebranded as the Motorola Edge 40 Pro in markets outside of China. The subsequent global launch will occur sometime in the first quarter of 2023. Recently, a Motorola smartphone with the XT2301-5 moniker received its TENAA certification, and many speculated that this device could be the Motorola Moto X40. The smartphone had also received approval from the 3C authorities in China back in October.
Motorola Moto X40 features (rumoured)The Motorola Moto X40 is rumoured to have a 6.67-inch OLED display that features curved edges. The display will have a 144Hz refresh rate along with a Full HD+ resolution. We may see the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor under the hood, along with 18GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 512 GB of storage. The smartphone will run on the My UI 5.0-based Android 13 OS out of the box.
It is also believed that the Motorola Moto X40 will be equipped with a 60MP selfie camera. It may also have a 50MP primary shooter, 50MP ultra-wide lens, and a 12MP telephoto camera. The battery is rumoured to have a capacity of 4500 mAh for one variant, and 5000 mAh for the other variant. The Motorola Moto X40 may also support up to 125W fast charging capabilities (though it was spotted with a 68W charger at 3C). It is also believed that the smartphone will have an IP68 rating, which means it will be waterproof and dustproof.

Samsung will enhance your security by 28 Billion Say hello to the all-screen fingerprint scanner
Fingerprint scanners on smartphones have undoubtedly gone a long way in enhancing the user’s security. This technology is fairly common now, with it being available in smartphones across different price ranges. While the more affordable smartphones utilise optical sensors, others use ultrasonic fingerprint scanners to offer a more premium experience. Now, Samsung is looking to take your security a step further by turning the entire display into one giant fingerprint scanner.
Samsung announces its all-screen fingerprint scannerAt the recent International Meeting of Information Display (IMID), Samsung revealed that it plans to launch an all-in-one OLED display 2.0. ISORG, a French organisation that speclialises in Organic Photo Diode (OPD) technology, stated that Samsung will be using a multi-fingerprint sensing technology on the display.
Speaking about the same, Dieter May, who is the CEO of ISORG, said “With the OPD technology, you can either use four finger authentication, raising security 2500 million times, or you can use “point to open” on security on single specific apps. Touch that app and it even confirms who you are before opening the app”.
How will the all-screen fingerprint scanner work? The OLED display will work as one giant fingerprint scanner, which means that you can place your finger anywhere on the screen in order for it to unlock. According to Samsung, this screen will also be equipped with biosensors that will monitor your blood sugar levels as well as your blood pressure. It will also contain 5G antennae.
We may see this technology sometime in 2025. As this is a product from Samsung Display, we may even see that year’s Apple iPhone utilise it, along with other smartphones that want to offer high-end flagships that compete with these brands.
Is Samsung’s display technology all it's cracked up to be? Read our review of the Samsung Galaxy S22 flagship to know more!

Will Apple actually release its car in 2026 Heres what we know
There have been plenty of rumours circulating regarding the launch of the Apple Car, with dates ranging from 2024 to 2028. Now, fresh rumours indicate that the Apple Car may hit markets 2026. It is believed that this car will not be equipped with self-driving, will run on the Apple Silicon chip, and will be priced under $100,000. There had even been rumours in 2017 that Apple had given up on making their own cars altogether, and was moving on to focus on autonomous vehicle software instead.
Apple cars won’t have the self-driving featureAccording to Bloomberg, Apple is shifting the priority to getting a vehicle out in the market and is willing to sacrifice the self-driving feature for the same. “In a significant shift for the project, the company is now planning a less-ambitious design that will include a steering wheel and pedals and only support full autonomous capabilities on highways, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the information is private.” said the report. The report went on to elaborate “Apple currently plans to develop a vehicle that lets drivers conduct other tasks — say, watch a movie or play a game — on a freeway and be alerted with ample time to switch over to manual control if they reach city streets or encounter inclement weather. The company has discussed launching the feature in North America initially and then improving and expanding it over time.”
What is Apple Silicon?Apple Silicon is the proprietary chip on which the car will run. It is claimed to be “equal to about four of Apple’s highest-end Mac chips combined.”
Bloomberg states “The heart of Apple’s technology is a powerful onboard computer system — codenamed Denali after the tallest mountain peak in North America — and a custom array of sensors. The processor’s performance is equal to about four of Apple’s highest-end Mac chips combined and is being developed by the company’s silicon engineering group. The chip has reached an advanced state and is considered nearly production-ready, though Apple may scale it down before the car’s launch to lower costs.”
Apple car release date and priceThe brand has not revealed the release date for the car as of yet and based on speculations, it will hit markets in 2026. It is believed to be priced below $100,000.

India to finally evaluate social media algorithms with the Digital India Act
Social media algorithms have always been a great mystery, with many wondering how they are utilised to shape an entire generation. Celebrities like Andrew Schulz, Joe Rogan, Jordan Peterson, and others have famously talked about how Tiktok’s algorithm for China rewards ‘useful’ content, such as videos on engineering and skill sharing. The short video app rewards twerking and silliness everywhere else. In light of that, India’s determination to evaluate how these algorithms work spells great news.
The government is reportedly working on a proposal that will hold social media platforms more accountable for the content they are showing users, based on profile and browsing history. The proposal is known as Digital India Act (DIA) and will include language that ensures platforms like the metaverse, AI-governed apps, and those that use advanced quantum computing do not slip through the cracks. This will make India a part of a handful of countries that want to take a closer look at how social media algorithms are used.
“The idea is to prevent misuse of Indian citizens’ data. Even if the data is stored in India, it can be misused by highly advanced algorithms. That must be prevented,” said a government official about the same.
What will the DIA disallow? The DIA will allegedly have mandates that can regulate the way different tech giants process the data they collect. The idea is to prevent these companies from identifying individuals from an anonymous dataset and then pushing specific content onto them. Social media companies will also have to be more transparent about the processes they use to collect data.
“We are not going to overload the DIA with too many legal regulations. Instead, it will be an umbrella framework with space for executive rules which can be updated as required with time,” officials said.
